NBU and SECO Launch Technical Cooperation Program until 2022

The NBU and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) have signed the Memorandum of Understanding concerning the Implementation of the second phase of the Bilateral Assistance and Capacity Development for Central Banks (BCC) Program (2018–2022), which will be implemented by Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

The Program provides for technical cooperation between the parties until 2022, in particular in the form of expert consultations and research activities. The Program’s key areas of focus are monetary policy, financial stability, statistics, loan management tools, operational risks in central bank operations, and financial market development.

The Memorandum on the implementation of the Program was signed on 29 November during a meeting between Dmytro Sologub, Deputy Chairman of the NBU, Claude Wild, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Ukraine, and Nicole Ruder, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine.

Dmytro Sologub welcomed the Program’s launch: "The assistance of our Swiss partners focuses on areas that are essential to the development of the NBU and the Ukrainian banking system. We highly appreciate your contribution to implementing European best practices at the NBU as it progresses towards full membership in the European banking community. We are convinced that the Program will be implemented successfully and productively".

"We are pleased to commence this cooperation with the NBU. This joint effort proves the importance of the partnership between our countries. The new Program aims to support the NBU, both by providing technical expertise and by unlocking access to Swiss best practices and opportunities to conduct research at Switzerland’s best institutions," said Claude Wild.

The Swiss Cooperation Program in Ukraine aims to support four key areas: Sustainable Economic Development, Sustainable Energy Management and Urban Development, Governance and Peacebuilding, as well as Health.
