Emerging Researcher Forum 2025 took place on 23 May in Kyiv, becoming the NBU’s eighth research event for young people.
This year’s event was special in two ways. First, apart from completed research papers, the NBU reviewed extended annotations and promising research ideas. The best of them were selected for the Forum. Second, the presentation of the completed research papers included further discussion of the papers with the panelists, who were representatives of the NBU and invited experts.
"The NBU actively cooperates with universities to strengthen the human potential of Ukraine, at least in the field of economic research. This year’s forum is not just a research academic event of the NBU. It is our space for fostering a new generation of analysts who work at the intersection of science, policy, and the real sector. Ukraine definitely needs your knowledge, energy, and vision of the future," said NBU Deputy Governor Sergiy Nikolaychuk in his welcoming speech to the participants.
The forum brought together 20 young researchers from nine Ukrainian universities, and the total number of participants (including invited experts and representatives of the academic community) reached 60. The speakers covered a variety of topical issues in the following areas: monetary policy, foreign exchange market, financial stability, economy, labor market, balance of payments, and more. The keynote speaker, Viktor Koziuk, Head of the Department of Economics and Economic Theory of the Western Ukrainian National University, Doctor of Economics, Professor, delivered a lecture on the topic Central Bank Independence: How Research Has Changed Monetary Policy Institutions.
At the end of the Forum, the jury selected the three best papers
The winners in the best poster category were Yurii Havryliuk and Lev Tsehotskyi from Odesa National Economic University with their paper Assessing the Differential Impacts of Climate Change on Economic and Financial Cycles in Ukraine.
Maria Khomenko (Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University) and Danylo Borsuk and Anhelina Osadcha (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) won in the topical case study nomination with their research How War Changes the Economy: A View Through the Prism of Import Transformation during the War.
For the best data analysis, the jury awarded Petro Nochovkin from the Kyiv School of Economics with his paper From Clicks to Careers: What Ukraine’s Most Popular Job Search Site Says about Regional Employment Trends.
All Forum participants received attendance certificates from the NBU
Authors of the best papers got incentive prizes and were offered an opportunity to take an internship at the National Bank of Ukraine.
The most interesting papers presented at the Forum will be recommended for publication in a special issue of the Visnyk of the National Bank of Ukraine in the format of a scientific article or abstracts.

The NBU has been holding scientific conferences for students and young researchers annually since 2017, except for a forced break in 2022.
Over the past eight years, young researchers from various universities and research institutions both in Ukraine and abroad have submitted 184 papers. Of these, 97 were selected for being presented at the conference. Twenty-five of the conference participants have joined the NBU team. Many of them have been following career paths in various units of the Ukrainian central bank.
