President of Ukraine Introduces NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy

Today, 10 October 2022, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, officially introduced to the National Bank of Ukraine its newly elected Governor, Andriy Pyshnyy.

Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, attended the event.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the new NBU Governor is an expert in the financial and banking sectors. “It is of utmost importance for the NBU to maintain a stable and confident environment,” said the President. Zelenskyy announced that he expects efficient performance from the united team of the Government of Ukraine and the NBU, and preservation and advancement of the existing relations with international financial institutions.

“I expect the new NBU Governor together with the Government to contribute to the approval of the new program with the International Monetary Fund,” said Zelenskyy when presenting the NBU Governor.

Andriy Pyshnyy mentioned that his appointment came at a very turbulent time full of challenges and threats to our country. Pyshnyy thanked the President of Ukraine, the Parliament, and the Ukrainian public for the confidence and the opportunity to lead such a strong institution as the NBU.

The NBU Governor announced among his priorities macroeconomic stability in the country, effective macroeconomic policy, constructive dialogue with international partners, and preservation of a robust banking system.

“The year 2023 will be difficult. The total required funding is USD 38 billion. We will work to gain this financing in an effort that all authorities should join,” said Andriy Pyshnyy.

According to the NBU Governor, it is crucial to continue constructive dialogue with international partners to acquire the resources Ukraine requires today to stay strong, win, and lay the foundation for recovery.

“Under my leadership, the NBU will continue to implement systemic comprehensive reforms to speed up Ukraine’s integration into the EU community. I can assure you that as soon as we find the slightest opportunity to resume our reform efforts, which the NBU has always prioritized, we will do so,” said the Governor.

Andriy Pyshnyy also emphasized that an institutionally strong and independent National Bank of Ukraine is the foundation of macroeconomic stability.
