The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), on 14 May 2019 put a commemorative medal entitled “175 Years since the Establishment of Uman National University of Horticulture” into circulation.
The medal commemorates one of the oldest higher educational establishments in Ukraine – a main vocational school for horticulture was founded in Odesa in 1844. It was later moved to Uman.
On the medal’s obverse, on top, against a smooth background, is Ukraine’s small coat of arms. Below is the following legend: Україна 2019 (Ukraine 2019); in the center is the university building, against the background of which is the smooth outline of a student (to the right), and plant images (to the left); against a matt background, there is the following circular legend: Уманському національному університету садівництва (Uman National University of Horticulture); below, against a smooth background, is the legend 175 років (175 years). The mint mark of the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works is above and to the right of the building.
The reverse depicts a conventionalized composition that symbolizes the art of gardeners, who tend their gardens lovingly: in the foreground, against a matt background, is a hand sowing seeds in the ground; against a smooth background are flowers and a tree bearing fruit.
The medal was designed by artist Maryna Kuts and engravers Volodymyr Demianenko and Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
The medal went on sale from 14 May 2019 at the NBU and distributing banks.
