This autumn, the National Bank of Ukraine (the “NBU”) invites young people to take part in a student championship entitled Monetary Policy: the NBU University Challenge (NBU University Challenge).
This is a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes of the operation of the country's main financial sector regulator, to get a closer look at the work of the Monetary Policy Committee, and to gain practical knowledge about how the NBU contributes to maintaining price and financial stability in the country.
Participation in the NBU University Challenge event will provide students with an opportunity to complement the theoretical knowledge they gain in higher education institutions, add an interactive component to the learning process, and help students gain useful practical experience.
During the event, students will acquire skills in carrying out modern macroeconomic analysis, and broaden their understanding of how monetary policy is conducted and how monetary policy decisions are taken. Students will also improve their skills in analytical thinking, economic and mathematical modeling, teamwork and public speaking, which are important for learning and for successful professional development in the future.
The registration of student teams will continue until 16 September.
Registered teams will have to submit their monetary policy decisions in the form of a presentation by 23 October, on the eve of the NBU’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting. NBU university challenge participants will in fact have to answer the question: "What is the optimal key policy rate for the current and expected state of the economy and why?" In the finals, each team will have to defend their project. Participants will be evaluated by NBU Monetary Policy Committee members and market experts.
The finalists and winners at the championship will gain prizes and will be invited to intern at the NBU.
