Financial Awareness Days Launched in Kharkiv

From 15 November through 17 November, 46 various events will be held in Kharkiv to improve financial awareness. The events will take place within a framework of the Financial Awareness Days project managed by the National Bank of Ukraine (the NBU) in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) team implementing the Financial Sector Transformation (FST) Activity and also with the support of Visa international payment system.

Kharkiv program includes:

  • 7 open lectures and 4 lectures for university professors on financial awareness and inclusion, consumer lending, banking sector reforming, financial ombudsman institution, financial reporting of banks, and deposit guarantee system in Ukraine
  • 12 interactive workshops and trainings for school and university students
  • 16 excursions at traveling exhibition of the NBU's Museum of Money.

"I hope that thanks to the Financial Awareness Days we will be able to inspire the idea of raising the level of financial awareness of Ukrainians not only among specialized departments but also local authorities, businesses, academic community and all citizens who care about their future" - said Roman Borysenko, NBU Deputy Governor, at the opening ceremony.

Kharkiv citizens were greeted with the project opening by the NBU representatives, as well as byNatalia Berezhna, Head of the Financial Sector Programs Department, USAID, Robert Bond, Transformation of the Financial Sector Project Manager, Yulia Zavalishyna, Head of the Group on Relations with the Ukrainian State Authorities, CIS and South-Western Europe, Visa, and Tamara Smovzhenko, rector of the Banking University.

As part of the event, Roman Borysenko, NBU Deputy Governor, held a meeting with representatives of the banking community, where local bankers had an opportunity to discuss topical issues of the banking sector development.

During the mentioned days a traveling exhibition of the NBU Museum of Money will be held; it will consist of two parts:

  • the display of historical context will include the banknotes and coins exhibition Ways of the Ukrainian Hryvnia History focused on the history of the Ukrainian currency, and a special photo project Inspired by UPR Age.
  • unique commemorative coins collection Pages of Ukraine's History encompasses several series and underlines the most important events and symbols in the history of Ukraine. A temporary exhibition of the coins devoted to Kharkiv and Kharkiv oblast will be shown for the first time.

The Signs of the Zodiac, Children's Zodiac, and Oriental Calendar, the most popular series of the NBU commemorative coins, will also be exhibited.

Visitors will be able to view the videos of the Hryvnia is Our Symbol campaign, which will allow them to learn about the historical and symbolic content of the Ukrainian currency banknotes and to visit Visa’s cashless area.

Financial Awareness Days

The Financial Awareness Days project is managed by the National Bank of Ukraine (the NBU) in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) team implementing the Financial Sector Transformation (FST) Activity and also with the support of Visa3]. The events will be held in Kharkiv from 15 November through 17 November in partnership with the Banking University, Deposit Guarantee Fund, and Independent Association of the Banks of Ukraine.

The Financial Awareness Days in Kharkiv is a penultimate stage of the project this year. Similar events have already taken place in Odesa (20-22 September) and in Lviv (1-3 November). Event program and schedule in Kharkiv are available at

In 2017, the the events are planned in Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Dnipro. In 2018, the project will cover the events in 20 Ukrainian cities.

The final stage will take place from 28 November through 1 December of the current year in Dnipro.
