The NBU has begun to post, on the External Sector Statistics page of its official website, data on transactions by other financial corporations. This effort is part of implementing the State Statistics Development Program through 2028 approved by Resolution No. 989 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 15 September 2023.
The data breakdown by economic sector has been deepened to meet the requirements of the Sixth Edition of the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (IMF, 2009), but this has not affected the overall balance of payments (BoP) indicators, as the transactions were taken into account without being designated as a standalone item in external sector statistics. The posted data for other financial corporations goes back to 2020.
Some of the BoP indicators have been clarified to reflect new information, mirror statistics, and the updated calculation methodology.
Specifically, the 2020–2023 numbers on goods exports and imports were revised as clarified data on the volume of mail for that period came in. As a result, goods imports were increased by USD 1,459 million in 2020, by USD 2,083 million in 2021, by USD 926 million in 2022, and by USD 1,589 million in 2023. Postal exports were increased by USD 440 million, USD 508 million, USD 276 million, and USD 336 million, respectively.
Import volumes recorded under the Travel item for 2023 were also revised to reflect changes to the residency status of persons who had stayed abroad for longer than one year. This reduced by USD 1.5 billion the expenses abroad that had previously been included in this item.
Private remittances made to Ukraine in 2024 through Q3 2025 were clarified as well. The data revision comes after Narodowy Bank Polski improved its remittance assessment methodology and refined the numbers to reflect the findings from the latest survey of Ukrainians in Poland. The remittance figure was reduced by USD 305 million for the first nine months of 2025, and by USD 49 million for 2024.
A list of the main changes made to the external sector statistics, along with the reasons for data adjustments, can be found on the official website of the National Bank of Ukraine. You can look it up under the section Statistics / External Sector Statistics / Methodological Materials here.
