Global Money Week Campaign for Children and Youth Starts in Ukraine

Today, Global Money Week international financial awareness campaign has started in Ukraine. This year, over 100 countries are expected to take part in it. The NBU has become an official coordinator of the Global Money Week 2021 events.

The main motto of this campaign is "Protect yourself, protect your money." In times of the pandemic, it is important to take care of one’s health and remain financially sustainable.

"In 2021, Ukraine celebrates the Global Money Week for the eighth time. In schools and universities of different Ukrainian regions, the educational events are to be held to raise the awareness of children and youth on financial institutions and personal finance management. It will help them in future to become confident financial services users and take sound financial decisions," stresses Oleksii Shaban, the NBU Deputy Governor.

From today and until 21 March, in the framework of the Global Money Week in Ukraine, events for schoolchildren will be held, and from 22 to 28 March, events for students. For safety reasons and in solidarity with other countries, the online format for events is recommended.

The National Bank of Ukraine jointly with the USAID Financial Sector Transformation Project has traditionally prepared a versatile program of educational and interactive events on financial topics for children and youth. Active pupils and students, invited by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, will take part in the activities. Children and young people will take interactive Zoom classes and webinars prepared by NBU experts, as well as trivia games, flashmobs, contests, and other activities in social media.

"The project organizers have been happy to support the NBU’s initiatives aimed at raising the financial literacy of young people. We are sure that improving financial knowledge will promote the recovery of the public’s trust in the financial sector and will lay the foundations for further economic growth," comments Yuliia Vitka, Deputy Head of the USAID Financial Sector Transformation Project.

The special event of this year’s celebration is the schoolchildren’s video contest Hryvnia, Camera, Action! to be held for the first time. The pupils of 2–11 grades will have the opportunity to prepare a short video or comic strip covering the Future World of Money and Payments.
