No Green Card Insurance Policy Required to Leave Ukraine

Citizens intending to travel abroad in their own car do not need Green Card insurance policies.

As the insurance market regulator, the NBU has reached relevant agreement as a result of its meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the authorities in Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary. Moldova has also supported this initiative today. Citizens of Ukraine can cross the borders of these countries without acquiring a Green Card policy. Ukrainian border guards will not check availability of Green Card insurance policy under the orders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The decision to allow entering their countries without a Green Card policy was made due to the martial law imposed in Ukraine.

Green Card is an international contract of compulsory civil liability insurance in respect of the use of the motor vehicle. This type of insurance is obligatory for all vehicles that leave the territory of Ukraine. Green card policy is valid abroad in the territory of Green Card System member countries.

In addition, according to the Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau of Ukraine Polish insurers will issue for Ukrainians the civil liability policies with 30-day coverage free of charge.
