First Deputy Governor Yakiv Smolii will become Acting Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine from 11 May 2017.
Today is the last working day of NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva, the news she announced a month ago.
Valeria Gontareva is resigning from her post at the NBU, going on a forced leave until the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, accepts her resignation.
Before leaving Valeria Gontareva is ready to report to the Verkhovna Rada, as provided for by the NBU Governor resignation procedure, upon the parliament’s request.
According to law, the decision about NBU Governor resignation is to be made by the President of Ukraine and approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The detailed procedure for appointing and dismissing NBU Governor is set forth in Article 18 of the Law of Ukraine On the National Bank of Ukraine.
In this regard, First Deputy Governor Yakiv Smolii will serve as NBU Acting Governor until the new Governor appointment.
