New NBU Website: Informative, User-Friendly, Responsive

On 1 August 2019, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) launches the official new website and the main communication channel of the central bank. The new website is located on the www.bank.gov.ua replacing the old one created in the early 2000s.

The NBU’s priority is to improve access for customers to the exhaustive information required for reasoned decision-making.  These are the targets behind the cutting-edge, bilingual and user-friendly interface of the new NBU’s website. The website was designed with the support of USAID and with consideration for the requests vocalized at numerous communications with stakeholders.

“The NBU operates to meet the needs of its customers. NBU customers are not just banks and other financial market participants, but also all citizens, entrepreneurs and journalists. The central bank policy should be comprehensible to everyone, and answers to questions should be easy to find. This will enable our customers to make informed and reasoned decisions ranging from daily needs to long-term ones on making savings and investments,” noted NBU Governor Yakiv Smolii.

Thus, the new website will become an efficient instrument for building trust, improving effectiveness of policies, and reducing uncertainty in the economy according to the Communications Strategy.

“The new website of the NBU is a state-of-the-art, innovative and user-oriented source of huge volumes of data. We have designed a simple structure and simple navigation, applied new design trends making it responsive. Everything was done to make the website useful for vast audience: journalists, experts, economists and financial analysist, as well as the general public,” said Nataliia Bondarenko, Director of the Communications Department.

Availability of key indicators and widely-used materials is at the core of new NBU website.  At the same time, there is the option of site search for specialized information and publications required for in-depth analysis.  Respectively, the website home page contains:

  • a section with key indicators (inflation rate, current key policy rate, the hryvnia exchange rate against the euro and the US dollar as of the present date, international reserves)
  • latest and most important news of the NBU
  • links to useful materials and NBU themed microsites
  • NBU event calendar
  • media space.

At the same time, all information on the website is divided by themes, such as, monetary policy, financial stability, supervision, payments and settlements, financial markets, and hryvnia. Instead of long texts with complicated terminology, now the web-site will contain exhaustive explanations on the central bank operation, as well as answers to the frequently asked questions. Also, disseminated statistics will be consolidated in the Statistics section.

The new web-site is responsive to the needs of NBU customers. First, more attention is paid to visual presentation of information, in particular the website presents interactive diagrams with indicators and over-the-time trends. Second, the website will be responsive to all devices, including smartphones and tablets. Third, the new website features a special version for people with visual impairments.

These are just some of the novelties for NBU website users. In October this year, the second stage of finalizing the new website will be completed. At the same, the following will become available for the NBU customers:

  • database modeler with the option to build diagrams and download data in different formats
  • Tariffs and Services section containing information on all services provided by the NBU
  • automated register of payment systems
  • Job Openings section with the option to file the CV right away
  • new themed microsites, including access to NBU Money Museum.

The old version of the website will continue to operate throughout the transition year on the https://old.bank.gov.ua/ domain.
