This coin celebrates the tradition of pysanka-making – the ancient Ukrainian art of egg-painting, which showcases the rich variety of ornamental motifs and the unique color palettes of every region in Ukraine. The coin’s composition demonstrates the distinctive traditions of Polissia – one of Ukraine’s most ancient ethnographic regions.

The obverse of the coin is divided into four sectors by intersecting lines forming a cross – a sacred symbol that stands for the unity of existence that bridges heaven and earth. Each sector represents the art of pysanka-painting prevalent in Polissia and depicts ornaments characteristic of the region. Specifically, Rivne oblast (bottom left) features waves, a net, and comb-like protrusions (like the teeth of rakes); Volyn oblast (top left) a star fragment, dots, comb-like protrusions, the sun, and waves; Zhytomyr oblast (top right) comb-like protrusions and the sun; and Kyiv oblast (bottom right) spirals and a net. Every ornamental element carries a profound symbolic meaning, where the sun and stars embody light, life-giving energy, development, and prosperity, while waves symbolize water, longevity, and fertility. Furthermore, spirals serve as a sign of infinity, protection against evil spirits, and the eternal flow of life; nets represent the connection between worlds; comb-like protrusions act as an archaic symbol of rain; and dots represent grain, signifying the birth of new life and the continuation of lineages. Above, to the right, are the legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine), the coin’s issue year – 2026, Ukraine’s small state coat-of-arms, the coin’s face value 10, and the graphic symbol of the hryvnia. Beneath, to the right, are the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works, as well as the metal and its fineness Ag 999 and the coin’s fine weight - 31.1.

The reverse of the coin depicts a pysanka adorned with the ruzha (an eight-pointed star), a traditional ornament of Chernihiv oblast (Polissia). It symbolizes the sun, fire, and light, embodying life, prosperity, energy, and the awakening of nature in spring. The symbolism of the motif is further enhanced by its colors: red, a symbol of strength, health, and energy, which was traditionally regarded as having strong protective powers; and black, a symbol of the earth, fertility, ancestral memory, and protection.
