Description:
This coin celebrates Nil Khasevych – a prominent figure in the Ukrainian underground movement, a renowned graphic artist, and a participant in Ukraine’s liberation struggle who transformed art into a powerful weapon of resistance.
Obverse: in the center of the composition is a self-portrait of Khasevych, executed in the woodcut technique characteristic of the artist, distinguished by its expressive graphics, contrasting linearity, and dynamic hatching. To the left, above, against a smooth background, are Ukraine’s small state coat-of-arms, the coin’s issue year 2025, the legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine); in the center is the legend НІЛ / ХАСЕВИЧ (Nil / Khasevych); beneath are the coin’s face value 2, the graphic symbol of the hryvnia and the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works.
Reverse: there is a symbolic composition made up of fragments of Khasevych’s woodcuts, stylized as a banknote similar in design to the bofons (insurgent financial receipts). The composition includes elements of the artist’s graphic work as a symbol of the economic, ideological, and moral strength of resistance. Above, against a matt background, are the legends: ДО ВОЛІ / НАРОДІВ І ЛЮДИНИ (For the freedom / of nations and people) and 300 КРБ / НА БОЙОВИЙ / ФОНД (300 karbovanets / for the military / fund), which emphasize the role of the bofons in raising funds for the resistance and resonate with today’s practice of donations.
