NBU Refuses Acquisition of Alfa Bank Qualifying Holding Purchase to Andrii Kosohov

The National Bank of Ukraine has refused the acquisition of a qualifying holding in Alfa Bank Joint Stock Company to Andrii Kosohov. On 27 October 2022, the Committee on Banking Supervision and Regulation and Oversight of Payment Systems adopted the respective decision, as Andrii Kosohov had been subject to individual special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) in line with the decision by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated 19 October 2022 and, accordingy, his business reputation was not compliant with the requirements of the laws of Ukraine.

 

For reference

On 15 April 2022, the NBU recognized Andrii Kosohov an indirect qualifying holder of 40.9614% of the authorized capital in Alfa Bank JSC, who acquired his holding without applying to the NBU for approval of such acquisition and in violation of the banking law of Ukraine and NBU regulations.

The NBU approves acquisition of a qualifying holding in a bank in line with the procedure set out in Articles 34 and 34-1 of the Law of Ukraine On Banks and Banking and the Regulation on Bank Licensing approved by NBU Board Resolution No. 149 dated 22 December 2018 (as amended).
