Financial Awareness Days in Poltava

This year`s opening of Financial Awareness Days, aimed at increasing financial literacy of Ukrainians, took place in Poltava on 19-20 April.

Over two thousands of Poltava residents participated in regional events held as part of the Financial Awareness Days organized by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The events took place in the framework of the project on UkraineFinancial Sector Transformation.

The events were held at the Yu. Kondratiuk Poltava National Technical University and Poltava University of Economics and Trade.

16 open lectures and 3 lectures for university professors on monetary policy, banking sector, consumer lending, deposit guarantee system, investment instruments, information disclosure in the stock market, as well as security of bank deposits.

In particular, NBU Deputy Governor Dmytro Sologub spoke about the strategic goals and tasks of the central bank.

Among speakers there were NBU Deputy Director of Financial Stability Department Yevhen Dubogryz, legal head of USAID  Financial Sector Transformation project Tetiana Hryschenko, , and DGF representatives Svitlana Kulyk and Viktoria Khomanets.

The following events were also held:

  • 4 interactive workshops for school and university students;
  • 4 public debates for schooland university students on Cashless economy or cash? and Where is it better to keep money: under the mattress or in a bank?;
  • 4 training sessions on financial awareness for vulnerable groups;
  • 63 excursions to travelling NBU Museum of Money with the exposition of the Ukrainian money and modern commemorative coins. In particular, an exclusive coins collection dedicated to Poltava and the Poltava oblast was demonstrated for the first time.

Visitors also watched the “Hryvnia is our Symbol” videos. There are nine graphic video stories about the historical and symbolic significance of each hryvnia banknote.

Modern interactive technologies were presented by a special thematic mobile application, which clearly demonstrates the security features of the updated series of NBU banknotes (100 and 500 hryvnias). Such an application was created in Ukraine by the NBU specialists for the first time.You can download the application from the NBU website or by using information stands.

The Financial Awareness Days project has been jointly implemented by the NBU and the USAID within the framework of Ukraine—Financial Sector Transformation project and also with the support of Visa international payment system.

The event in Poltava was conducted in partnership with the National Securities and Stock Market Commission, the Independent Association of Banks of Ukraine, the Banking University and the Deposit Guarantee Fund.

Financial Awareness Days have already taken place in Odessa, Lviv and Kharkiv in 2017. There were over 7.5 thousand visitors.
