You are invited to join the discussion Who Are Forced Migrants from Ukraine, and How Do They Affect the Economies of EU Countries?

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the Centre for Economic Strategy (CES), and the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) are inviting you to join the discussion Who Are Forced Migrants from Ukraine, and How Do They Affect the Economies of EU Countries? The event will take place remotely between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Kyiv time, on 22 February 2023.

Since russia launched the full-scale war against Ukraine, millions of Ukrainians have been forced to go abroad. The discussion will focus on who exactly have gone abroad, how Ukrainians are influencing the EU economy, and what will motivate them to return to Ukraine.

NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy is expected to deliver the opening remarks.

Participating researchers will present their studies: 

  • Forced Migrants from Ukraine: Who Are They, Where Do They Come from, and How to Return Them? by Dariia Mykhailyshyna, CES Adviser and a postgraduate student at the University of Bologna
  • How the Wave of Forced Migration from Ukraine Affected the Economy of EU Countries by Olha Bondarenko, Principal Economist at the NBU’s Monetary Policy and Economic Analysis Department.

A panel discussion will follow. Participants: Maryna Tverdostup, Economist at wiiw, Ella Libanova, Director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Oleksii Sobolev, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization, and Sergiy Nikolaychuk, NBU Deputy Governor. Hlib Vyshlinsky, Executive Director at CES, will moderate the discussion.

The event will be held in Ukrainian with simultaneous translation into English.
