Effective 24 January 2025, Volodymyr Sukhanov is Director of the Nonbank Financial Service Providers Supervision Department at the National Bank of Ukraine.
His responsibility in this capacity includes:
- conducting off-site supervision of legislative compliance by supervised entities in nonbank financial services markets (except for the payment market and the FX market)
- carrying out assessments of risks inherent in the activities of nonbank financial institutions
- responding promptly to violations of financial service laws by supervised entities and to the conduct of risky business
- participating in assessments of the quality of supervised entities’ corporate governance and internal control systems
- analyzing nonbank financial services markets, and regularly assessing nonbank financial institutions’ financial standing, performance, and more
- maintaining transparent interactions with market participants to establish effective, state-of-the-art regulation that meets the needs of market participants as well as financial service consumers.
The Nonbank Financial Service Providers Supervision Department is part of the NBU’s Prudential Supervision function, which is under NBU Deputy Governor Dmytro Oliinyk’s general management and control.
“Our common task is to strengthen the legal, regulatory, and supervisory framework for nonbank financial institutions and financial markets. This will amplify the work of supervisory teams and facilitate the transition to the risk-based approach, which will in its turn increase the NBU’s effectiveness. I consider this to be a priority for the newly appointed Director of the Nonbank Financial Service Providers Supervision Department, along with improving the professional capacity of supervision,” said Dmytro Oliinyk.
As previously reported, to expand and deepen the supervision of nonbank financial service providers, the NBU in November 2024 updated its organizational structure and established the Nonbank Financial Service Providers Supervision Department.
Volodymyr Sukhanov has been working in the banking system for 18 years now, including more than ten years in the NBU’s banking supervision system.
Before his appointment as Director of the Nonbank Financial Service Providers Supervision Department, Volodymyr Sukhanov was Deputy Director of the Integrated Banking Supervision Department, a role that included supervising more than 20 banks and 30 nonbank payment service providers.
Prior to his employment with the NBU, Volodymyr Sukhanov in 2007–2014 held management positions at Ukrainian banks, where he was in charge of developing the retail business and the branch network.
Volodymyr Sukhanov graduated the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” (Master’s in Economic Cybernetics, 2007).
