NBU Workshop Monetary Policy in Emerging Markets: Understanding the Causes and Consequences of a New Wave of Inflation to Take Place on 15 December 2023

On 15 December, the NBU will host its third workshop on Monetary Policy in Emerging Markets: Understanding the Causes and Consequences of a New Wave of Inflation. The event has been organized for the second straight year in cooperation with the Euro Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN).

The event will convene economists, experts, and policymakers from central banks, academia, think tanks, and international financial institutions from Ukraine, Italy, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, the United States, Canada, China, and other countries. The participants will discuss the main drivers of inflation dynamics, as well as the problems and constraints faced by EM central banks during the new period of high inflation. The workshop will cover a wide range of issues, from exchange rate fluctuations and increased impact of global commodity prices to pressures from rising wages and demand.

Athanasios Orphanides, Professor of the Practice of Global Economics and Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will be the keynote speaker at the workshop. He will give a talk on Enhancing Sustainability through a Monetary Policy Rule.

The workshop will take place online in English.
