Participants of the #SuperCoins fundraiser organized by the National Bank of Ukraine and theSuperhumans Center have collected almost UAH 3.6 million worth of coins. The funds raised will help the Ukrainian military and civilians affected by the war.
The main driving forces behind the fundraiser were children and young people who collected coins in educational institutions. More than 210,000 children, students and educators from all over Ukraine took part in the event.
“Incredible unity and willingness to help those in need have become a characteristic feature of modern Ukrainian society,” said NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy. “We are proud to be able to contribute to the formation of a culture of charity among children and young people, and we thank all partners and participants of this fundraiser. In particular, this year we focused on important topics of inclusion: teachers conducted educational talks on the ethics of communicating with people with disabilities, fostering respect and understanding in children, including respect for, and understanding of, the needs of people with war trauma.”
According to the Superhumans Center, the funds raised will be used for surgical treatment (complex reconstructive surgeries on the face, neck and limbs) of Ukrainians affected by the war. The patients include both civilians and soldiers who were seriously badly at the front.
“More than 210,000 Ukrainians have donated almost UAH 3.6 million, which is impressive!” said Superhumans Center founder Andrii Stavnitser. “But there are also results that cannot be measured here and now, such as a change in attitudes toward people with disabilities in society. If everyone who took part talks to at least five of their friends or relatives, our campaign will affect millions of Ukrainians. This is how change begins. The funds raised will help Ukrainians regain their lost faces and the ability to smile again. But in addition to helping specific people, we are changing the country together and becoming a society that is equally welcoming to everyone.”
The coin-collecting fundraiser lasted three months, from 9 September to 6 December 2024, and was carried out across all of Ukraine. Everyone could transfer coins through a wide network of partner banks, which this year were PrivatBank, Oschadbank, and FUIB. The banks transferred the raised funds to the account of the Superhumans Center.
- The campaign also included a number of educational events for educational institutions, with over 25,000 children participating in educational conversations “Respect and Understand”. During the classes, the children learned how to show respect, avoid stereotypes, express themselves correctly and create an atmosphere of mutual understanding when communicating with people with disabilities. The conversations were conducted by teachers based on materials developed by the NBU together with the Superhumans Center
- More than 34,000 participants joined the Coins of Gratitude contest, during which educational institutions created mosaics from collected coins to express gratitude to the Ukrainian soldiers who are defending Ukraine from the enemy.
