Over UAH 32.7 Billion Transferred for Defense Needs from NBU Special Account Since Full-Scale War Started, UAH 10.3 Billion in 2023

In 2023, over UAH 10.3 billion was transferred for defense needs from the special account opened by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), whereof UAH 2.7 billion was transferred in December.

Last year, an equivalent of more than UAH 11.1 billion (over UAH 3.3 billion in December) was transferred to the special account the NBU opened on 24 February 2022 to support the defense forces of Ukraine.

In total, nearly UAH 34.7 billion has been credited to the special account since russia launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The money has been delivered by individuals and businesses of Ukraine and from all over the international community (including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Switzerland, Norway, Australia, France, Canada, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, and many other countries). That includes almost UAH 15.6 billion that was remitted from abroad in foreign currencies (U.S. dollars, euros, GB pounds, Canadian dollars, Chinese renminbi, Japanese yen, Swiss francs, Polish zlotys, and Australian dollars).

As of 1 January 2024, the special account balance is almost UAH 2.1 billion. 

The NBU has already allocated over UAH 32.7 billion to meet defense needs.  In particular:  

• a total of UAH 1,418 million for the National Guard of Ukraine (whereof in 2023: UAH 130 million on 6 February 2023, UAH 239 million on 1 May 2023, UAH 49.3 million on 15 May 2023, UAH 10 million on 18 December 2023)  
• UAH 1,650 million for the National Police of Ukraine (the entire amount was transferred in 2022)
• UAH 22,424 million for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (whereof in 2023: UAH 700 million on 19 May, UAH 263.6 million on 26 May 2023, UAH 327.6 million on 29 June 2023, UAH 1 004 million on 3 June 2023, UAH 1 013 million on 11 June 2023, UAH 175 million on 3 August 2023, UAH 944.3 million on 9 August 2023, UAH 279.7 million on 6 September 2023, UAH 294.1 million on 25 September 2023, UAH 22.8 million on 1 December 2023, UAH 21 million on 18 December 2023, UAH 24.2 million on 19 December 2023, UAH 10 million on 20 December 2023, UAH 10 million on 21 December 2023, UAH 30 million on 22 December 2023, UAH 10 million on 25 December 2023, UAH 10 million on 26 December 2023, UAH 303.3 million on 27 December 2023, UAH 2 249 million on 28 December 2023, UAH 10 million on 29 December 2023)
• UAH 1,000 million for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (whereof in 2023:  UAH 20.3 million on 19 September)

• UAH 40.5 million for the NSDC of Ukraine (the entire amount was transferred in 2022)
• over UAH 207.5 million for the State Special Transport Service (whereof in 2023: UAH 13.6 million on 13 February 2023, UAH 12.1 million on 20 April 2023, UAH 8.3 million on 26 May 2023, UAH 22 million on 9 June 2023, UAH 63.8 million on 14 June 2023, UAH 20.8 million on 14 July 2023)
• over UAH 328 million for the Security Service of Ukraine (whereof in 2023: UAH 228.2 million on 17 January 2023, UAH 10 million on 29 December 2023).
